Chair of Cardiac ICU and Mechanical Circulatory Support

Aparna Hoskote

Dr. Aparna Hoskote, Consultant in Cardiac Intensive Care, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust & Honorary Senior Lecturer, UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, London.

I have been working in Cardiac Intensive Care and Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) for 18 years in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust, London, a quaternary institution (one of the busiest cardiac programmes in Europe) attracting international trainees for advanced Cardiac ICU training.

I am an active member of Cardiac subgroup of Paediatric Intensive Care Society UK. In October 2017, I was invited to join the scientific committee for the EuroELSO and successfully organized the paediatric sessions of EuroELSO conference in Prague (May 2018) while continuing to chair the EuroELSO Working Group on Neurological Outcome. Within ESPNIC, I was successfully elected as Deputy Chair of the Cardiac ICU and MCS section in October 2017 and led an increase in section membership, and currently conducting a survey of European CICU care. I conducted a workshop on ‘Paediatric Heart failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support’ at ESPNIC (Lisbon 2017), and am actively participating in EAPS (Paris 2018).

Building on these connections, and an aspiration to connect, inspire, and advance domains (training, education, guidelines, research, humanitarian collaborative) underpinning good Cardiac Intensive Care, and to work collaboratively within ESPNIC sections, I hope to create and promote a strong, sustainable and effective platform for Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care for the future.

My aim as Chair will be to be ‘inclusive’ of members rather than being ‘exclusive’; working alongside the Deputy Chair to help foster joint working (engagement, support and empowerment) of like-minded cardiac intensivists and friends in the world of advanced cardiac intensive care.
